EXCELLENT ITEM TO TAKE WITH YOU
I have the mapsource street index in mine. I actually got mine to trial for a company. Now use it when on the hills home and abroad. Gives you that additional piece of mind.
In bright sunshine it can be hard to see the screen. As with all GPS's without antenna you are bound to have patchy coverage in the tree's and beside tall buildings. The prices have really come down, this unit was £250 when I first had it. You can pick them up with the Mapsource disk for £150 on some sites.
If you rubbish at map reading or you want to venture further than you comfort area get one of these.

SMALL, LIGHT, EASY. DOES THE JOB.
Easy to use. Clear display. Accurate, at least I think so anyway. I use mine for keeping logs of where I've been, and for those "where exactly am I ?" moments. Combined with Memory Map, this is perfect for keeping a log of where you've been, and how long for. Mapping is good with the extra maps from Garmin. Price as Dec 06 is only app £125!!! BARGAIN. Battery life fine on alkaline, although some people moan... it's fine out for the whole day. Carry some more if you're worried!
Base map is fairly useless, although having used mine now, I don't use the mapping feature anyway. Loss of signal in trees.
A superb tool, provided you're not walking in trees. No problems so far.
