on my second one of these, good, compatible with petzle helmets

fits my Petzle e-vent helmet like a charm, good battery life, no large battery pack to carry, different settings allowing for battery saving, red light for night vision preservation and flashing options
My friends dog likes to bury them,
not sure if they withstand being dunked under water, and not wishing to try....
Good head lamp, and you can pick them up for less than £20 if you hunt around, strap is comfortable enough, has survived several trips under ground and is one of the bits of kit i take with me every where, at work and at play.

Very good and solid headtorch

5 different settings
Long battery life
3 yr Petzl guarantee
bright lighting level
adjustable beam direction
I thought the single head band wouldn't be very stable or supportive but it turns out to be very effective and really solid. The diferent modes of lighting are all easy to work (bright white, economy white, white srobe, red solid, red strobe) and even on economy provide adequate lighting for most tasks...I've used it for around the campsite, walking and also other outdoor activities (I help with scouts so have used it in various outdoor excercises). Overall a very good torch, available for little over £30 if you shop around and look online.

Lightweight, bright, multi-mode head-torch for a very reasonable price.

83g including batteries
Very useful range & distribution of light
red LED option
5 modes (white: max, min, strobe; red: steady, flashing)
battery indicator
waterproof seals
Good price
Glitter effect in rain (see "in the rain" in "overall" section)
Low angle of illumination at highest setting (see "elevation" in "overall" section)

WALKING: I found the lower continuous-white-light setting totally adequate for walking at a good pace. The higher setting is great for a look-around, but I felt no need to keep it on all the time.

RED LIGHT: The red light is a useful feature if, like me, you like to keep your night vision sometimes. It's bright enough to walk by on a good path with care. it's absolutely fine for proximity lighting.

IN THE RAIN: the lower continuous-white-light setting gives a mini strobe effect (note: this is not in strobe mode), which, in the rain, gives the effect of glitter in front of your face. Pretty, but a bit distracting! (I guess it's the same with any single-LED on a low setting.) It doesn't occur on the max-white or red-light settings.
The distribution means I can see the inside rim of my hood, and the end of my nose, which, coupled with the glitter effect, makes for a lot of local illumination under these conditions.

ELEVATION: The unit can be angled at four different settings, but I found the whole unit set a bit too low: on the highest elevation I had to tip my head back, or lean backwards, to lift the light up enough to use its full 35m beam - not what you want to do while wearing a heavy pack! Equally, the lowest elevation illuminated my boots, which I don't need. For me, I'd prefer the whole unit to be set one notch more vertical, so I can use the top notch for distance and the next one/two for walking.

Overall, I love it. Great weight. Great price.
