Don't bother with a spare battery: take a tikka or zipka instead (its lighter) and use the zoom when you need the extra power.I've had my zoom for 25 years and still in good nick - (it replaced the old E01 non- Continue reading...
The Tikka Plus is where it's at now - lightweight, more versatile, better on the batteries, this is the bit of kit to get. Continue reading...

This is the CLASSIC Petzl headtorch ! I have had one of these for the past 7 years and the zoom feature is something that is lacking in many of today's modern LED headtorches.

Lacking in the sense that it's not there, but as someone who used the classic Petzl Gloom for about 20 years not lacking in the sense that it's a whole lot of actual use...

I use an Alpkit Gamma now.  Cheaper, lighter, batteries last longer, switching between the wee LED and the big one gives you useful variety of beams.

The Zoom is one of the All Time Gear Greats and many of us have been guided through Epics by them, but they're really historical now.  Current LEDs do the job better, don't require spare bulbs and last a lot longer on a set of (lighter, smaller) batteries.

GOF

why you promoting an out of date product by suggesting you own one...and then throwing in a link that goes to a website about headtorches in general?

(By the way, I know what you mean about the zoom feature - but with the advent of second generation LEDs it is widely available)
