Hi, we are just back from Bolivia where we did some trekking in the Andes at 4000/5000m. We were supplied with Doite tents (Chillean brand). I'd never seen this brand before but they were OK quality tents.
Part way thru' it got windy, very windy and dry!! Lots and lots of dust. And yes ALL the tent zips started to fail. As night time temps were -10/-15 0C I was just a bit worried. Fortunately our guide knew just how to fix them. I don't know what he did but it worked.
Maybe someone out there can enlighten me/the rest of us, as it would be a really useful trick to know.
I guess most tent zips would have the same problems with lots blowing dust, not just Terra Nova.
Cathy.
