Doest really matter where you start although I tend to park up next to the woods just after crossing Bigsweir Bridge and taking the right hand turn towards Coleford/Clearwell
Make your way into the woods that slowly climb up to crest of the valley hillside. All along here Offa's Dyke can be seen or walked on and it is very impressive in places.
The route follows the ridgeline within the woods only breaking breiefly into woodland glade or field by Coxbury Farm. Plunging back into the woods again, continue along the ridgeline until you reach Highbury Farm. Here take time to look around the Wye Valley and down into Redbrook. Fine views are to be had and for those with a keen eye, you will spy a pub nestling on the far bank of the River Wye
Down the short steep valley side into Redbrook, cross the road by the post office and then take the path that runs behind the football field. This takes you across the old railway bridge that used to carry steam trains from Chepstow to Monmouth. As you drop down, The Boat Inn presents itself and is a fine and timeless traditional watering hole. After pausing for a pint, make your way along the riverbank following the course of the old railway trackbed. In summer this is a lovely walk and if you are brave, why mnot take a quick dip in the cool but not cold waters of the Wye?
Eventually the path leads you to Bigsweir Bridge, a fine stone structure that has seen better days but is in the process of being renovated. Admire the Pike House standing guard by the bridge (also in need of urgent repair) or take a look at the WW2 pillbox cleverly hidden in the field next to the Pike House. As you cross the bridge, take time to gaze upstream and down the Wye and finally take the small road back up to the car and home
