Difficulty gradings
Gradings are based on the "average" walker, and are based on distance covered, height gained and the nature of the terrain. Please grade your route using the drop down choice of Easy, Moderate or hard.

Scramble gradings
Scrambling grades increase according to the technical difficulties, exposure and navigational difficulties encountered.
Grade 1: Requires no specialist skills. Navigation is straightforward. Ropes and protection are unlikely to be required except as confidence aids.
Grade 2: Similar to a grade 1, but likely to have areas of difficulty, exposure and/or difficult navigation. Rope and protection is advised
Grade 3: A serious scrambling route with multiple difficulties of exposure, navigation and difficult moves. Grade 3 routes may have isolated sections approaching V.Diff rock climbing.Ropes and protection essential.
Grade 4: Equivalent to Grade 3S, these are long, strenuous routes requiring rock climbing skills, with limited escape options and frequently including sections of Moderate to V Diff rock climbing. Ropes and protection essential.
