Overview
One of Britain's most popular scrambles, and a fine ascent of the only Munro on an island other than Skye. A great climax for Munro baggers, and a favourite finishing Munro, but well worth a visit in its own right for the classic ridge from A'Chioch.

Ben More - Hillfoots Bazza

Approach Start about a mile east of the car park overlooking Eorsa on the B8035, where a bridge carries the road over the Abhainn na h-Uamha.

A path leads steadily up along the right hand bank of the stream, past the waterfalls and into Gleann na Beinne Fada. The route steepens as you climb to a col ahead midway between Beinn Fhada and A'Chioch

Route This is only a grade 1 scramble, so the exact route depends on how much or how little contact you want with the rock to a large extent.

Ben More and the Cioch - Marcus Crompton

Throughout the crossing of the ridge there's always an option to descend into Gleann na Beinn Fada. From the col turn right onto the North Ridge of A'Chioch, which starts off as a steep walk but turns into a fine series of easy moves over large blocks as you approach the summit of A'Chioch.

From the summit you can see the length of the ridge across to Ben More, a combination of airy walk and rocky scramble. The path is easy to follow and follows the ridge as it climbs towards a final scramble as you approach Ben More.

The ideal line for this final couple of hundred feet is to hug the crest of the ridge, though a slightly lower path provides an alternative on windy days. The ridge breaks out onto the summit of Ben More with the trig point straight ahead.

Descent Descent to the north is possible throughout the route, with the option of taking the North Ridge of Ben More to Coire nam Fuaran and back into Gleann na Beinne Fada.
Caution Scrambling is potentially dangerous and, particularly at the higher grades, requires technical skills and equipment to minimise the risk. We suggest that you take professional instruction or climb with an experienced partner.

Having just done this one I don't know how it can be classed as a grade 1 scramble.

The only scrambling we had to do was on Beinn Fhada and that was purely by choice

I did some scrambling here Frank- I was trying to contour A Chioch at the time and fecked it up! There is some bouldery stuff on the crest though if you want it - the dog loved it.

I do have a soft spot for this one - it was the last munro for me, and I would imagine for quite a few others as well.
