This week's matinee is a cracking podcast interview with Peak District based outdoor, wildlife and travel photographer John Beatty talking vividly about his approach to photography and his mission to photograph 'what something feels like, not what it is .. the atmospher and texture of an area'. It's accompanied by a selection of stunning images from his book Wild Vision

A fascinating five minutes for anyone interested in outdoors photography in particular and the relationship between the visual and mental generally. You can catch John in person at the Buxton Adventure Festival in the Peak District on Saturday 20 October, 2012. More details at www.buxtonadventurefestival.co.uk.

Incidentally, the soundtrack to the video is actually by John's son, Robin Beatty. See www.theolddanceschool.com.

And while we're talking photography, check out these amazing cave-diving images by Gavin Newman from this year's ShAFF Arc'teryx Adventure Shot photography competition. Just astonishing.

And from the same competition, Andy Day's gripping parkour images.
