Cold promises to be one of the highlights of this year's EMFF.
Oooh, er... this is from Smitten, would you do this for chips and gravy...
And gallic BASE insanity from Flight of the Frenchies.

With just ten days to go before this year's tenth Edinburgh Mountain Film Festival from 26-28 October, here's festival director, Steve Christie with a personal take on the highlights of this year's festival. Over to you, Steve...

Perfect Ten!

All year I’ve heard the same thing: ‘Wow! The 10th festival? Really?’ And, here we are, with the EMFF just around the corner. When I set up the EMFF, I wanted it to be an event which would entertain, enlighten and inspire people. I’m confident that, in our 10th year, we’ve got an event which will do that again.

Guest speakers Leo Houlding and Alan Hinkes need little introduction but I would advise you not to miss Friday night’s lecture with Børge Ousland – he is fantastic! Climbers will love hearing from Zoe Hart while sea kayaker Simon Willis brings the diversity that we always build into the festival, along with some great stories and images. Don’t overlook the less famous speakers as they sometimes steal the show!

The 23 films we are screening this year are sure to delight. From the funky camera work of All I Can to the raw emotions of Cold, from the topical White Silk Road to the family adventure in Dougie Down The Pet, the films are all enthralling stories set against the spectacular backdrop of the great outdoors, in locations stretching from Aonach Mor to Afghanistan, and from the Northern Corries to the Norwegian Arctic.

And not forgetting the extraordinary antics in Smitten which is about an Australian BASE-jumper who is happy to do BASE jumps for the camera in return for chips and gravy! In his words: Gravy? I’ll do it twice for gravy!” However, he perhaps does one jump too many and you’ll need to come along to find out what happens as he plummets out of control out of the screen after his parachute fails!

It's been a thrilling 10 years since the EMFF came into being. As I think of my journey with the EMFF over the past decade, I’ve met some amazing people, made some good friends and had lots of fun along the way. The many special moments created by the EMFF have entertained, enlightened and inspired me. I hope it’s worked for you too. See you soon at the EMFF!
