Across the Andes by frog... You can't miss the opportunity for a
headline like that... It's a serious story though, really.
According to the Outsidemag.com web site, veteran French
ultra-runner Serge Girard is planning to run 3,700 miles across South
America starting from Lima in Peru and finishing in Rio, on the
Brazilian coast.
The 48 year-old already has some major endurance runs under his
belt including the 2,852 miles from Los Angeles to New York (twice)
and from Perth to Sidney, in the process of which he destroyed 20
pairs of shoes...
The run was scheduled to start on August 10 and should take three
months based on a daily distance of 50 miles. Not only will he have
to cross the Andes, but the sweltering Amazonian jungle. Er, good
luck...
