Annabelle Bond, who first came to our attention a year ago with her successful Everest climb, today entered the mountaineering record books as the thrid youngest and fastest woman to complete the Seven Summits.

Her Mount Everest climb was just the first step for Annabelle on an attempt to complete the arduous "Seven Summits", which involves climbing the highest mountain on every continent. Late last night (UK time) along with Guy Cotter - who took over Adventure Consultants after the tragic deathe of Rob Hall on Everest in 1996 - Ms Bond reached the summit of Denali in Alaska at 6194 metres.

Her success makes Annabelle the 100th member of the elusive 7 Summit club, along with being the third youngest woman to complete them and in a record time for a woman too. The news of the record-breaking achievements broke late last night in a call from Guy Cotter, who also joins the Seven Summit club.

After completing Mount Everest last year Ms Bond went on to top out on Elbrus (5642m), Kilimanjaro (5895m),Kosciouszco (2228m), Vinson (4897m) and Aconcagua (6962m) before turning to Denali (or Mount McKinley to the Americans). Along the way she even managed to fit in a friends wedding on the summit of Mount Vinson in Antarctica. Vinson prepared the team well for Denali where the temperatures regularly hit -40 C and bad weather delayed the party for several days at high camp.

We'd like to congratulate Annabelle on her success and wish her well for the future, she's become a bit of a cult figure on the OM forum, but as her mountaineering record shows, she's not just a pretty face.

Annabelle's Seven Summits record bid has been in order to highlight and raise money for the Eve Ovarian Cancer charity appeal. Further details will be available soon on www.annabellebond.com or check out our previous articles below.

Ms Bond has now completed 6 of the 7 Summits. With the political situation in Irian Jaya she is doing the Kosciouszko variant of the 7 summits, and has now completed Everest, Kilimanjaro,Elbrus, Vinson, Kosciouszko and Aconcagua.

At the moment she is mid way up Denali, and has spent the last few days ferrying equipment up to Camp 2. She is still on target to complete the 7 summits in a single calendar year.

I can't believe she is doing this to impress me, I'm flattered ;-)
