Brits Tackle 100 Mountains To Raise Mine Awareness

They're off to Japan for 4,000 mile trek

Three young Brits are taking on on an epic 100-mountain trek through Japan with the aim of raising awareness of the global landmine crisis.

Tom Fearnehough: 4,000 miles, two pairs of socks?
Somehow we don't think so...

The three, following in the split ends of David Ginola, will be kitted out with Bridgedale socks for their nine-month continuous walk, which covers an estimated 4,000 miles and takes in the summits of the Hyakumeizan - Japan's 100 famous mountains. These average 2,200 metres in height and include 3,776-metre volcano Mount Fuji.

Tom Fearnehough (25), Paul Briffa (23) and Ben Davies (21) set off in February two different models of sock - the Summit for hard mountain use and the redesigned Trekker for lighter use beween mountains.

And how many socks do you need for 4,000 miles? The rolecall per person is three pairs of CoolMax liners, three pairs of Trekkers and three pairs of Summits, which they expect to last for the duration.
