The BBC has reported that the body of a hiker from Devon who went missing in the Alps has been recovered following a search and rescue operation.

Bryan Ellis, 53, from Ilfracombe on the north Devon coast, disappeared last Tuesday while walking in the Grenoble area. He used his mobile 'phone to leave an SOS message at the hostel he was heading towards, saying that he was stuck and needed help. Unfortunately the message was not picked up for an hour. His body was found late on Thursday afternoon, his injuries indicated a fall.

Mr. Ellis was an experienced hill walker and climber and a former member of the Exmoor Search and Rescue group. It is thought that he got into difficulties after the area was hit by bad weather.
