Four Die In New Zealand Avalanche

Four mountaineers have died after being caught in an avalanche on the upper slopes of Mount Tasman in NZ. Two others are in hospital with injuries.

Sad news from New Zealand where six climbers have been avalanched on the country's second highest peak, Mount Tasman, with four dead and two injured.

Latest reports are that the climbers were high on Mount Tasman, in the Mount Cook National Park, when the avalanche struck. Three died in the avalanche and a further climber died from injuries at Mount Cook Village.

Police reports are that two of the dead climbers were Australians and the rest New Zealanders. According to this story, some ten people have died in the Mount Cook National Park area in 2003.
