The body of the first climber ever to be killed on K2 has emerged
from a glacier 63 years after he disappeared at on the world's
second highest peak.
The label on a glove helped to identify the remains of Dudley
Wolfe, a prominent socialite and part of an American team which
attempted the mountain in 1939. He became separated from the rest of
the team high on the mountain and was never seen again.
Wolfe's family reportedly blamed the German team leader, Fritz
Wiessner for his death, claiming that he had left the inexperienced
climber in an unjustifiably dangerous situation alone in a tent high
in the death zone, though two desperate attempts where made to reach
him.
