Scary stuff from the good old US of A where two hikers were shot by a hunter who mistook them for turkeys.

Edward Roshea, hunting in a 'New York suburb' fired at a moving object some 40 yards away which he believed to be one of the waddling celebratory birds and was surprised to hear screaming.

Not as surprised as the hikers presumably; 31-year-old Jeffrey Frisby was hit by 14 pellets in the forehead, neck, chest and arm and is now recovering in hospital. His 26-year-old fellow hiker was also hit by three pellets.

So if you're off the States, keep those gobbling noises down... Full story on Ananova.

And if you're really a turkey and planning a shopping trip to the Big Apple, our advice is simple - don't do it and if you must, then make sure you pack the Paxo.
