The recent earthquake in Pakistan has left an estimated 350,000 people homeless and, with winter just around the corner, in dire need of shelter and other supplies.

You can help directly though - The Mountain Company and Cotswold Outdoor have teamed up to co-ordinate the collection, in the UK, of second hand tents, sleeping bags and warm clothing to be sent to the affected regions in Pakistan.

How To Donate

If you'd like to make a contribution, all you need to do is take the items to your nearest branch of Cotswold Outdoor before the end of November and they'll do the rest. As an incentive, anyone who contributes items in a reasonable condition will also receive a voucher giving them 15 per-cent off their next purchase at Cotswold.

What's Needed?

What to donate?

  • Sturdy and robust hiking or expedition style tents & larger durable family camping tents.
  • Sleeping bags.
  • Warm & wet weather clothing including hats, gloves, thermals and polypro socks.
  • Climbing rope.

All items should be in a reasonable and useable condition. Don't send lightweight clothing, old, lightweight or poor quality tents, old blankets, toys or gifts of any kind.

So, if you've got serviceable but surplus kit lying around, you know what to do.

You can get further information from the Mountain Company web site.

Thanks for posting that, Jon. I'd read that tents were wanted, but I didn't know that it was possible to donate other things too.

I've got a sleeping bag and lot of decent clothing that might keep people warm, and I'll go and wash them now and get them over to Cotswolds.

Great idea.

I posted re this last week, and dropped some stuff off in Cotswolds at the weekend. The staff apparently didn't think anyone would bother donating - let's prove them wrong :)

You're not wrong... I've got a lined pair of Craghoppers that are far too warm for me, now I know what to do with them!
