Hinkes At Base Camp

British 8,000 meter man Alan Hinkes has successfully reached Dhaulagiri base camp, but further progress is being hampered by heavy snow.

It's mostly quiet on the Alan Hinkes front. What we can tell you right now is that despite being inconvenienced by a Maoist general strike in Kathmandu, Alan successfully departed for base camp, which he reached on 22 April.

Unfortunately heavy snowfall has prevented him from starting climbing and building acclimatisation by moving gradually higher up the mountain. More news when we have it.

Alan is aiming to become the first Brit' to scale all 14 of the world's 8,000 meter peaks and has just two left to summit. He's sponsored by Berghaus and you can find more about him on their web site and from the previous OM articles listed below including and in depth interview.

More Challenge 8000 news as soon as we have it.
