Record-breaking Berghaus-sponsored mountaineer Alan Hinkes has arrived on the Kathmandu social scene at a special reception hosted by the British Ambassador to Nepal, his Excellency, Keith Bloomfield to celebrate his recent record achievement.

Hinkes, who's successful ascent of Kangchenjunga makes him the first Briton to climb all 14 of the world's 8,000-metre peaks, is back in Kathmandu preparing to return to England with his climb officially confirmed by the Ministry of Tourism in Nepal.

The reception took place in the garden of the British Embassy, traditionally the send-off point for the great Everest expeditions of the past. Apparently staff from the embassy baked a special cake for Alan featuring all 14 of the 8,000ers, hopefully using local ingredients...

Hinkes with the British ambassador before leaving for Kangchenjunga. But where's the cake?
And was it local?

Alan is due back at Heathrow next Monday 27 June, so you can expect a further meeja splurge then...
