Inca Trail To Close

Peru's Inca Trail is scheduled to be closed for the month of February 2001 according to South American travel specialists Journey Latin America.

The information, in the latest issue of their free magazine, Papageio, apparently comes from their ground operator in Cuzco and the purpose of the closure is to enable an overall clean up of the trail, improvement of facilities on the route and to prepare for the implementation of the new regulations (see link below, or check out the South American Explorers Club outline here).

JLA stress that information coming out of Peru can he haphazard and subject to change, but if you're planning a trip to Cuzco in February, it might make sense to reschedule.
