It's Everest A Go Go
'This is Dave Weatherballoon from Everest Base Camp, it's cold here and the mountain is very big'. Yep, it's that time of year again folks

It's Everest a-go-go right now, with numerous teams of highly
disciplined Himalayan mountaineers constantly updating their web
sites by satellite phone from Base Camp.
You know the stuff; 'Hey! Dave Weatherballoon of the SuperCorp
Inc. 2002 Everest Expedition from base camp. Hey, I'm looking out of
my tent here and I can tell you that Everest is real big and covered
in snow. There are lots of tents here and people. Last night the cook
dished up some real good rice and chicken. It is real cold here.
Tomorrow we are going to sit in our tent and update the web site.
Thanks to SuperCorp for making the whole thing possible... etc'
Cynical? Us? Whatever. If you do want to follow live cybercasts
from the big lump itself, then Mountain Zone is the place to go.
They're following Alpine Ascents International's South Col
Expedition, with daily updates, pictures and hey, you can even read
it in Spanish. Click
here for the latest from Nepal.
Meanwhile, our old mate Tashi Tenzing - Tenzing Norgay's grandson
and the third generation of his family to suimmit Everest - is also
on the mountain. Tashi's climbing with a Swiss expedition which also
has a site which they're going to be updating regularly with
dispatches and pictures from Nepal. The expedition is to mark the
Swiss attempt on the mountain of 1952, just a year before it was
finally climbed. Check the web
site.
Last but not least, it may not be flashy, but if you want news and
lots of it about Everest and other major Himalayan peaks then there's
only one place to go everestnews.com.
