Mountains suffering from global recession
Major glaciers are shrinking by up to a km a year

Further confirmation of receding glaciers came from the geophysicists at the annual spring meeting of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) in Boston, MA on Wednesday.
Satellite data showed that the majority of glaciers were decreasing in size, particularly in the Andes where glaciers are receding at almost a kilometre a year (one glacier in Colombia is losing metres of ice a week). In Europe French, Spanish and Swiss glaciers have also been found to be shrinking, although Scandinavian glaciers were among the few in the world that are actually getting bigger.
The findings are alarming as mountain glaciers are more sensitive to climate changes than polar glaciers, so a global trend in shrinking mountain glaciers may simply be a precursor to something altogether more dramatic.
