On top of this year's other Everest records - and there seems to
be a new one every day - comes the news that a Sherpa has broken the
record for the fastest ascent of the mountain.
Pemba Dorje Sherpa reportedly climbed the peak in an astonishing
eight hours and ten minutes flat from base camp. His ascent was
helped by being able to use the firm tracks trodden into the mountain
by approximately 90 successful Everest summiteers this year.
The ascent follows on from a dispute over the record between Pemba
Dorje and another Sherpa last year. Lapka Gelu Sherpa's record of ten
hours and 56 minutes was officially recognised, putting an end to the
dispute, but the new time is almost three hours faster.
