Porter Protection Group Gets New UK Rep

The IPPG, which exists to improve conditions for trekking porters has a new UK rep and contact details. Plus how to contribute in a practical way

The UK branch of the International Porter Protection Group has a new UK representative, Nayan Brown, who takes over from Ed Cartwright.

The IPPG - see some of our previous articles at the bottom of the page - exists to improve the working conditions of porters in major trekking areas, particularly the Himalayas, and are responsible for some fantastic initiatives, including a porter clothing bank in Nepal.

If you've trekking in developing countries and seen the way some local porters are treated at first hand, you'll appreciate just what an important issue this is. You can find out more about the IPPG on their web site or e-mail the new UK rep Nayan Brown by using this link.

If you are trekking in Nepal and would like to contribute to the clothing bank then you can contribute via Arjun Chaatakuli at the Himalayan Explorers Club in Jyatha, Thamel. E-mail members@hec.org with 'Clothing Bank' in the subject line for more info.
