Russian mountaineers have scaled a previously unclimbed and
nameless peak in Antarctica, which we tell you only because of our
deep fondness for the report of the climb on a Russian news site,
which is similarly nameless.
'To reach the peak the mountaineers had to climb numerous upright
sections.' It says here. 'The strenuous 14-hour climb was further
aggravated by a rushing mighty wind. Yet, it was worth endeavouring.
The pioneers called the peak Georgy Zhukov after a prominent Soviet
marshal (1896-1974) of the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945) against
fascism.'
We particularlylike the 'rushing mighty wind'. One day all
climbing news will be written this way. For the full report click
here and yes, this is a shameless, Friday morning space filler...
