Wildday.com man in bid to establish communications from 8000 metres plus
A Scottish climber is reportedly launching a mildly surreal bid to send, erm, the world's highest e-mail.
Michael Jackson, 31 - no sniggering at the back - runs the Wildday.com outdoor retail web site from Livingston and is an experienced climber. He's off to K2, the world's second highest and arguably most dangerous peak, as part of a four-man team, led by Fabrizio Zangrilla and aims to climb the mountain without oxygen. The team are also tackling Broad Peak.
'Tackling K2 is very daunting and makes Mount Everest look like a stroll in the park, especially as we will be doing it without bottled oxygen. But I am confident of succeeding and also sending what will be the worlds highest e-mail.' Jackson is quoted as saying in this story.
The e-mail, however, will be sent from the summit of nearby 26,410 feet Broad Peak. Obviously it's a transparent bid to raise Wildday's profile and we're hapy to oblige. You can read more about the expedition on the Wildday site by following this link. Departure for the mountain is set for 25 June.
