Soap Stars Off To Everest

It's a surgeon's saunter as stars foresake the ward for the great wide open and all for charity...

It's Holby City meets Hillary and Tenzing as two of the trashy hospital soap's stars aim to clean up for charity on a three-week sponsored trek to Everest Base Camp.

Bear with us here as we don't actually watch Holby City, rating it marginally below Hollyoaks in the soapy cred' rankings and a very poor man's Casualty, which is in turn a pale imitation of ER, so we don't actually know who these people are.

Clive Mantle, 44 and George Irvine, 47 - no relation, we think - play surgeon Anton Meyer and consultant Mike Barrett respectively and do look mildly familiar, though presumably not to Nepalis. The pair hope to raise around £90,000 for the charity Hope and Homes For Children.

Apparently Clive, a refugee from Casualty, has a lifelong obsession with Everest and persuaded George to accompany him on the trek - 'This is no picnic' he says. 'It's a real endurance test.'

Particularly for George who was recently gunned down during a road rage incident and has barely got back on his feet. Waddya mean that was just television?

A golden opportunity to film some episodes of Holby City on location I reckon - scene, Everest BC, the doctors are drinking sherpa tea and grimacing when a yak train arrives. Slung over the first yak is a furry bundle... 'Namaste Mr Surgeon sir,' says the yak driver. 'This yeti has caught its paw in a kitchen drawer while making porridge and is in danger of going gangrenous. It is also working for the mob importing cocaine to Nepal. Can you do anything for it, or the mafia will destroy our village.'

Or maybe not. Any better suggestions?

don't forget that the injured yak must turn out to be the long lost brother of the yak in the next cubicle being treated for severe bruising and singed wool/hair/fur? following the explosion at camp one after a team got stormbound for a week with only curried beans and a petrol stove

Not just long lost, but estranged after a violent incident involving drugs and adultery and trauma... It's the yeti that's injured though, the yak arrives in an ambulance while the trauma team are hard at work on the yeti's internal organs.
