A guide to the 2 main uses of the 'Marks' function

This function has two main uses:

1. To mark your current position so that it can be stored in your GPS waypoint database. This could be a special location you would like to return to or could be the location of an accident so that the grid reference could be passed on to the rescue services.

2. To mark your current position and then change the coordinates to create a new location that can then be stored in your GPS waypoint database. This is the only way to get waypoint data into your GPS unless you have a digital mapping or waypoint management system.

Don't forget to highlight the 'OK' key and press 'Enter' to save the waypoint. Once saved, a mark becomes a waypoint and can then be navigated to at a later date either as one isolated destination or single leg route (a GoTo) or as a part of a route. The waypoint is automatically given a consecutive number by the GPS - eg. WPT 001, WPT002, etc. As these labels can be confusing, rename them to make them easier to be found.

A GPS can only store names as a limited number of characters so it's a good idea to use the notes section of the waypoint page to give a brief explanation or carry a cheap and small A-Z address book to store a more detailed description of important waypoints. Take a little time to let the GPS 'settle' to get the most accurate reading before you 'mark' it.

If your GPS has an averaging function, use this wherever necessary.
