Lakes Backpack Part 2 (more pictures)

The master navigator hard at work - sorry mate, but that map is definitely upside down

Not a bad view from your bedroom window. The big, rocky thing is Scafell Crag dropping down to Mickledore, the col between Scafell and Scafell Pike on the left of the picture. More usual route between the two however is either round the back or via Lord's Rake, an easy rake that runs diagonally upwards from left to rightacross Scafell Crag.

Always worth stowing a bottle of red on these occasions - contrasts nicely with the blue of the tent.

High above Angle Tarn and lunch - well not that high, but definitely a lunch stop as well as a popular wild camping site

The path across Martcrag Moor may be boggy but on a clear day you get fantastic views over to the Pikes, this is the disinctively pikey Pike of Stickle. Ot is it o' Stickle?

More walking...

Start of the quick descent route from the Pikes back down into Langdale. Note the big chasm waiting for anyone careless enough to roll off the path

And finally, the final little rise before the path dives down into Great Langdale to finish just above the New Hotel. Perfect end to a perfect day etc ad nauseum.

--- the end ---

Ben...in amongst your back issues of TRAIL should be an approximation of the route we took.

December 2001 issue, Page 92-93, Walk 8, Lake District 2-dayer, Langdale to Wasdale, excpet we didn't go across to Mickeldore and Scafell then down to Wasdale. Instead we went down to Lingmell and along the Corridor route to Styhead Tarn. Oh and we couldn't be arsed to go over the top of the Langdale Pikes...we went straight down from Pike of Stickle to the ODG.

Have a look at the mag, and OS Map LR 90...the route is quite easy to follow and the paths were easy to navigate along (well they'd have to be wouldn't they!)
